1. For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit For every tree is known by his own fruit For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good, and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh - (Luke, 6: 43-45).

2. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves, ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them - (Matthew, 7: 15-20).

3. Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many and many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ or there; believe it not For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect - (Matthew, 24: 4, 5, 11-13, 23 & 24. Also found in Mark, 13: 5, 6, 21 & 22).

1. L'arbre qui produit de mauvais fruits n'est pas bon, et l'arbre qui produit de bons fruits n'est pas mauvais ; - car chaque arbre se connaît à son propre fruit. On ne cueille point de figues sur des épines, et l'on ne coupe point de grappes de raisin sur des ronces. - L'homme de bien tire de bonnes choses du bon trésor de son coeur, et le méchant en tire de mauvaises du mauvais trésor de son coeur ; car la bouche parle de la plénitude du coeur. (Saint Luc, ch. VI, v. 43, 44, 45.)

2. Gardez-vous des faux prophètes qui viennent à vous couverts de peaux de brebis, et qui au-dedans sont des loups ravisseurs. - Vous les connaîtrez par leurs fruits. Peut-on cueillir des raisins sur des épines ou des figues sur des ronces ? - Ainsi tout arbre qui est bon produit de bons fruits, et tout arbre qui est mauvais produit de mauvais fruits. - Un bon arbre ne peut produire de mauvais fruits, et un mauvais arbre ne peut en produire de bons. - Tout arbre qui ne produit point de bons fruits sera coupé et jeté au feu. - Vous les connaîtrez donc à leurs fruits. (Saint Matthieu, ch. VII, v. 15 à 20.)

3. Prenez garde que quelqu'un vous séduise ; - parce que plusieurs viendront sous mon nom, disant : «Je suis le Christ,» et ils en séduiront plusieurs.

Il s'élèvera plusieurs faux prophètes qui séduiront beaucoup de personnes ; - et parce que l'iniquité abondera, la charité de plusieurs se refroidira. - Mais celui-là sera sauvé qui persévérera jusqu'à la fin.

Alors si quelqu'un vous dit : Le Christ est ici, ou il est là, ne le croyez point ; - car il s'élèvera de faux Christs et de faux prophètes qui feront de grands prodiges et des choses étonnantes, jusqu'à séduire, s'il était possible, les élus même.
