Ipeak – Institute of Spiritists Researches Allan Kardec
Presentation and objectives
The characteristic of a serious study is the continuity with which it is carried out. Is it strange that many times one does not obtain any answer to questions that are grave in themselves but proposed at random and at point-blank, in the midst of an alluvium of other extravagant ones? Besides, it frequently happens that a given complex question, in order to be clarified, requires the solution of other preliminary or complementary ones. Whoever wishes to be proficient in a science has to methodically study it, starting from the principle and following the connections and the development of the ideas. What is the point of someone who is ignorant about the first words of a given science to randomly address questions to a scientist? (Allan Kardec, The Spirits’ Book, Introduction, item VIII.)
The members of the IPEAK, profoundly grateful for the immense benefits obtained, thanks to the teachings of the Spiritist Science, present to the public this humble contribution, fruit of the work of many.
It is about the organization of the works of the Master and its publication so that everyone may benefit from that.
This was only possible due to the initiative of valuable spirits of progress, who created electronic copies and made available precious works which were on the bookshelves of libraries around the globe, among which many of Allan Kardec.
Among them we would like to cite and thank the creators of the Google Books (http://books.google.com.br) and the French National Library BNF (http://gallica.bnf.fr): two portals from which we found large portion of the material available in the IPEAK site.
Our work may be compared to that of librarians who took the burden of cataloguing the works, according to the orientation given by Kardec himself, making electronic copies and giving an adequate treatment to those which we have acquired from used books stores in France and other countries, and collecting those available in the aforementioned portals.
Besides the fundamental works of the Spiritist Science, we also gathered the books and periodicals indicated by Kardec, be it those which are in the Rational Catalogue, be those which are cited by Kardec in the Magazine and other works.
And, to facilitate the study of those who wish to get to know or obtain an in depth understanding of Spiritism, we proposed the establishment of a script, referring the several works among themselves, starting from The Spirits’ Book.
In that script we tried to follow the chronological order of the works, respecting the connection established by Kardec during the explanation of each theme. As the Master himself has said: whoever wishes to be proficient in a science has to methodically study it, starting from the principle and following the connections and the development of the ideas.
We find an example of that when Kardec treats the theme possession. In The Mediums’ Book, 1861, Kardec examines that from one point of view, and then he reconsiders that in Genesis, 1868. The studious who follows Kardec’s steps will notice that he justifies this adjustment in the Spiritist Magazine, December 1863 – A case of possession – Ms. Julia, when he clarifies: We said that there was no possession in the vulgar meaning of the word, but subjugated. We return to this absolute assertion because now it has been demonstrated that true possession may occur, that is, substitution, although partial, by an errant spirit to an incarnated one.
Hence our objective is not but to facilitate the study of Spiritism to those who wish to follow the connection and development of the ideas, already traced by Kardec in his own works.
These are the objectives of the IPEAK.
Another activity which is also carried out by some members of the team is the study and practice of the Spiritist Science in the Group of Spiritist Studies Allan Kardec (GEAK).
From those studies some are recorded and the sound tracks made available at: www.geak.com.br (Portuguese only), making use of a public access to all citizens, but without the minimal pretension of giving the final word in matters that are studied and discussed. We only give our opinion, based on the individual capacity of understanding of each one. We only publish it aiming at sharing the fruits of our own reflections, be it about the texts of Kardec’s works, be it about recent communications obtained in our sessions, from the spirits that we have evoked to clarify us.
